In April, I will be shaving my shoulder-length hair as part of the University of Toronto Cops for Cancer fundraiser.

If anyone is interested in helping out, my contact information is in my profile.

I'll be sure to post before/after pictures of my bald head in the Chicklit Photo Album, if that's any incentive!

Speaking of head-shaving...

Sars of Tomato Nation is holding her annual fundraising contest in support of DonorsChoose , a very worthy charity. She's hoping to surpass last year's total of more than $23,000 with a goal of $25,000. Sarah has promised that if people can raise $30,000 for DonorsChoose, she'll shave her head bald and make a little film about it.

And I think she's going to have to do it, too; I saw how fast people surpassed her original goal of ten grand last year and I think it's only a matter of time before Sarah will be sporting a shiny bald pate for spring. There are lots of projects to choose from so pick your favourite and help deserving schoolkids! Frink and I donated to the Lego project. Mmm, Legos...

That's a great idea, Deborah! Thanks for telling us about it!

One question, though. How did you get past the "DonorsChoose cannot accept donations from non-U.S. citizens." rule? Did you just give a US address?

I picked out two reading proposals - I've been giving to Donors Choose off and on for about a year now and they've been fantastic to work with. It's exciting to see them grow, and this new "Donor Challenge" feature is awesome.

As of this post, there's been over $4K donated and 4 proposals are already 100% funded - Sars better get her razor ready!

StephA: I didn't encounter a problem with that non-US citizen thing...I wonder if that's a new rule. I already had a donor account on DonorsChoose because I contributed last year to the previous fundraiser. Can you let Sars know about that, please, so she can look into it? I'll bet that's something new, and it probably has something to do with tax receipts and stuff like that. I don't see why it should matter -- I mean, I know I won't be able to claim the donation on my taxes, but I'm still happy to contribute anyway.

Someone already has, and Sars says "Non-U.S. donations evidently aren't accepted by the software at this time; please stay tuned and I will figure out a workaround. You may certainly PayPal me a donation in U.S. funds in the meantime; I've alerted my DC contact and he's looking into a solution. Sorry for the inconvenience."

This August I will be participating in the MS Society Bike Tour to help raise funds to fight Multiple Sclerosis. It's 190km total over 2 days (Brampton to Waterloo and back). I've never ridden that far before, so this is a really big step for me.

Here is the link to my fundraising page in case anyone would like to pledge me!

Just an update on Sars's fundraiser: the $25,000 goal has already been met, and as of this moment, 48% of the additional $5000 that will get Sars to shave her head has been raised! More prizes have been added -- there's just a crazy number of prizes now -- and Wednesday, March 22 is Sarah's birthday, and I think nothing could make her happier than to conquer Mt. Baldy on her birthday. Remember, she's promised to make a film of Shavefest 2006 and put it online, so you get to share in the fun (aka "Mrs. Bunting's heart attack"). If you can scrape up a few dollars for kids' education*, please contribute.

*because the richest, most powerful nation in the world doesn't have much left for education after spending a billion dollars a day on a sham war...

Another update on Sars's contest - the bonus round is complete and the contest is closed. $30,000 raised in, what? a week? Wow.

Thank goodness I got my contribution in yesterday.

Well, it's nowhere near what Sars raised but I'm proud nonetheless.

Two coworkers and I participated in a Cops for Cancer event. Our little group raised 2386$. We shaved our heads and donated the hair.

Our goal was one thousand. We are quite pleased.
